Clearwater River, downstream from canoe camp - ID. On October 7, 1805, the five canoes left camp, traveling 20 miles in one day. They passed Indians who were catching and drying salmon for winter. Most were friendly, especially after seeing their Nez Perce guides and Sacagawea with "Pomp." A woman and her baby with a party of men was a token of peace.
